This is the story, the knife has been handed dwon in my family. The knife belonged to james bowie. As far as i know it was made for him not by him. He had a pouch on the inside of his boot that eh carried this knife in.
He gave the knife ot an ancestor of mine on my grandmothers side who was a very good friend. Finally my dad ended up with it, then me. When my garndmother was 17 years old, very poor and living in texas, she took it to the alamo and tried selling it to them but was told they did not have the funds to purchase it. They were very interested to have it if she would donate it as they knew about this knife. The year of this was around 1917.
hSe decided to keep the knife and so it ended up with me. I have really tried to find out any history about the knife but have just run into a brick wall. I figure the knife was made around 1800. The knife has not ever really been messed around with, has not been sharpened or anything else.
Wish i hand more info. On who made adn when it was given to james bowie.I have tried contacting the alamo several times but the problem is that all of the people from that time period are gone. The blade is sharp on both sides. Closed it is 10 inches overall.
Opened it is 19 inches overall. The thickest point is aruond 1 inch. The smallest point just before the boot is 7/16 of an inch. nO nov-17-08 at 073733 pst, seller added the following information the shipping was a mistake. The shipping si $15.00 for priority.
